Males tend to be largely underrepresented on the receiving end of plastic surgery. We have seen a large disparity when it comes to surgeons, as men make up a large portion of the ones performing these treatments.
According to Racked, men make up 85% of board certified plastic surgeons while 92% of cosmetic surgeries are performed on women. On the opposite end of the spectrum, women only make up 15% of the doctors available to patients.
How interesting it is to see that there are so many male surgeons yet we are still in the dark in terms of the reality of cosmetic surgery for men.
In 2010, there was a slow-but-steady increase in cosmetic procedures for men.
The American Society of Plastic Surgery reported that male facelifts rose by 14% while male liposuction increased 7%.
Furthermore, in conjunction with the ASPS, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reported that cosmetic enhancement for men had drastically increased 28% in the year 2000. Later, in 2016, men made up 8% of all cosmetic procedures.
